News and Info for 21st Century Parents

Imagine graduating from college with $132,000 in debt and then being laid off twice by age 24: true story, and a lesson in why college is not the golden ticket for lifetime employment.

People in a community coming together to teach kids practical skills and to work with their hands? This makes so much sense!

When we encourage our kids to become entrepreneurs, we can also tell them that others (and I don’t mean banks) may be willing to help them finance their dreams.

To raise kids who are money-savvy, be sure to teach them “Four Personal Finance Principles That Would Make Your Grandfather Proud.”

Kids can develop math skills painlessly if you teach them using the Wii.

What Homeschooled Kids are Missing Out On

Schoolkids are being catalogued by the government, right down to their personal beliefs and even their dental records.

Parents Who Didn’t Get the Memo

Chicago has imposed curfews on kids, blaming parents who don’t do it themselves. If these parents would do their jobs, our over-reaching goverment wouldn’t be able to use them as an excuse to limit our freedoms.

You Can Say That Again!

Schools, prisons, and mental hospitals are the only three places where, if you don’t show up, someone comes to get you. (David Thornburg)

News and Info for 21st Century Parents

Today’s 20somethings are suffering because of their student loan balances and poor job prospects, says this young writer. Wish someone had taught this generation about entrepreneurship, side incomes and avoiding college debt!

You may want to discourage your kids from going into these doomed industries.

Only 17% of 8th graders who took last year’s NAEP history test have “a solid understanding of the material.”

How tragic that so many parents put their faith in schools instead of taking responsibility for their children’s education.

Here’s a story that will help your young people understand the wisdom of freedom of economic choice.

What Homeschooled Kids are Missing Out On

Don’t we all have fond memories of being handcuffed as first-graders because we talked in class?

Parents Who Didn’t Get the Memo

Ok, so some of these parents are just trying to be cute to gain attention. But others scare me. What do you think?

You Can Say That Again!

The longer I taught in the public school system, the more I came to think that schools were concerned with everything but teaching. (Marva Collins in Marva Collins’ Way)

News and Info for 21st Century Parents

Here’s why our kids need to be very good with money: U.S. household income decreased last year, and it now takes 1.75 workers to pay for one person’s Social Security check (compared to 42 workers in 1945). So if these trends continue, our kids will make less money but pay more in FICA deductions every week.

This thought-provoking article explains why parental expertise is under attack and why you must maintain your parental rights. Unfortunately, in some countries, you can lose your parental rights and your child. That’s why it’s so important to fight for your rights now.

The push for college for every student has resulted in dumbed-down college classes, as Walter E. Williams explains in “Too Much Higher Education.”

One of the seven strengths our children need to thrive in the 21st century is good communication skills, as I explain in a recent podcast with JoJo Tabares.

What Homeschooled Kids are Missing Out On

Was it a coincidence that this young man committed suicide a day after being hypnotized by his school principal? Why is the principal hypnotizing his students anyways?

Parents Who Didn’t Get the Memo

I’m not sure which is worse: parents who dress their 4-year-olds in sleazy clothes stuffed with fake breasts and tushes and parade them around, or the television shows (and audiences) that egg them on.

You Can Say That Again!

Constructive, skill-building, entrepreneurial work builds children’s self-confidence, creativity and self-control, and does it more quickly. It is the most dramatic and consistent cure for behavior and personality problems. (Dr. Raymond and Dorothy Moore in The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook)
